AMR Corp AMR released its results for the second quarter on Wednesday.
AMR reported a quarterly loss at $286 million, or $0.85 per share, versus a loss of $11 million, or $0.03 per share, in the year-earlier period. Its revenue rose 7.8% to $6.11 billion. Analysts were expecting a loss of $0.75 per share on revenue of $6.12 billion. Its aircraft fuel expenses surged 31%. Its passenger revenue per available seat mile increased 4.3%. AMR's load factor dropped to 83.6% from 83.9%.
AMR also announced its plans to spin off American Eagle and order more jets.
AMR shares gained 3.85% to $5.12 in pre-market trading.
