UPDATE: Southern Co Reports Rise In Q2 Profit

Southern Co SO reported a rise in its second-quarter profit. Southern Co's quarterly profit surged to $603.3 million, or $0.71 per share, from $510 million, or $0.62 per share, in the year-ago period. Its revenue rose to $4.52 billion, from $4.21 billion. Analysts were expecting earnings of $0.64 per share on revenue of $4.49 billion. SO shares dropped 0.27% to $40.15 in after-hours trading.
