Gee, $5/day is too much to pay employees? Apparently it is, when some of them jump out of windows....
Currently, Foxconn uses just 10,000 robots, or one for every 120 workers, in its facilities. Next year, that number will jump to 300,000 (one for every four workers). It's OK, though: Gou announced the bad news to his employees -- that the robots will be coming for their jobs -- at a dance party organized for the Foxconn team, the state-run news agency Xinhua reported.
See, this is the problem in the general sense; wage arbitrage doesn't work. Note that even small rising wage demands have promoted this change. This tells you much about exactly what sort of slave labor conditions have to exist in order to make the exploitation of people that we have allowed to take place in China at the behest of our corporations work.
