New Device Detects Radiation In Packaged Food -Tech Crunch

One of the biggest fears in Japan, 5 months after the earthquake, is radiation in the food supply. Tokyo-based Fuji Electric FELTF has developed a device that detects radiation in packaged fish, meat, fruit and vegetables in just 12 seconds. That compares with similar systems that can take ten minutes for the same process. The device can check about 200 cardboard boxes filled with food in 60 minutes without cutting or even unpacking. The system will go on sale in September for $56,000.
