Every week, Benzinga conducts a sentiment survey to find out what traders are most excited about, interested in or thinking about as they manage and build their personal portfolios.

We surveyed a group of over 300 Benzinga investors on whether shares of Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) or Alibaba Group Holding Ltd - ADR (NYSE: BABA) stock would grow the most by 2025.

Over the next five years, which stock will have the largest percentage gain: Amazon or Alibaba?

A majority of respondents, 52.2% in all, believe shares of Amazon will grow more by 2025.

Amazon Vs. Alibaba Stock

As one of the world’s highest-grossing e-commerce platforms, Amazon is more than retail services alone. The tech giant's revenue streams also include Kindle; Audible and Music subscriptions; and the IT service management subsidiary AWS.

One investor in our study who told us Amazon would grow the most in the next five years underscored the customer service experience the e-commerce giant is known for stateside.

“Being an Amazon buyer almost daily, this company provides amazing products, great customer service and free returns. It is the go-to place for things that I need or want in my life right now and in the future,” the user said.

“The convenient, affordable services Amazon provides to the growing baby boomer and senior citizens are so valuable in the midst of the pandemic. Amazon’s success in growing its customer base in 2020 helps confirm revenue streams will continue to grow.”

Benzinga recently reported on Amazon's 2020 hiring spree: some 33,000 corporate-level and tech hires are being recruited for new roles within the company. This hiring block will earn average yearly wage of around $150,000.

Meanwhile, 47.8% of investors told us Alibaba would grow the most by 2025.

Most respondents who backed Alibaba cited and emphasized the larger, broader base of consumers present in China relative to the United States.

Based on this idea alone, it can be said that Amazon has the potential to reach market saturation before Alibaba, given that Amazon does not have market access to sell to Chinese consumers as of 2020.

This survey was conducted by Benzinga in November 2020 and included the responses of a diverse population of adults 18 or older.

Opting into the survey was completely voluntary, with no incentives offered to potential respondents. The study reflects results from over 300 adults.
