CFIA/Health Hazard Alert: Pidy Brand Pur Mamba (Peanut Butter) May Be Contaminated With Aflatoxin

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to consume Pidy brand Pur Mamba (peanut butter-piment) described below because the product may be contaminated with aflatoxin. The Pidy brand Pur Mamba (peanut butter-piment), product of Haiti, is sold in a 1 lb. plastic container bearing UPC 0 00000 71726 7. The affected product has been distributed in Quebec. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product. Aflatoxins are a group of toxic compounds produced by certain strains of fungi. Aflatoxin is listed as a human carcinogen. Consumption of products containing aflatoxin can lead to serious health consequences including liver damage and possibly death. The importer is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
