Excluding certain items, Forest Oil earned $0.32 per share. Its revenue dropped to $174.1 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.26 per share on revenue of $198.6 million.

PFE reported a rise in its third-quarter net income and raised its 2011 adjusted earnings forecast. Pfizer's quarterly profit surged to $3.74 billion, or $0.48 per share, from $866 million, or $0.11 per share, in the year-ago period. Pfizer's adjusted net income came in at $0.62 per share. Its revenue climbed to $17.19 billion from $16 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.55 per share on revenue of $16.43 billion.
Archer Daniels Midland Co
ADM reported a rise in its fiscal first-quarter net income on Tuesday. Archer Daniels' quarterly net income climbed to $460 million, or $0.68 per share, from $345 million, or $0.54 per share, in the year-earlier period. On an adjusted basis, Archer Daniels earned $0.58 per share. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.67 per share.
Thomson Reuters Corp
TRI reported a strong rise in its third-quarter profit on Tuesday. Thomson Reuters' quarterly profit climbed to $659 million, or $0.44 per share, from $356 million, or $0.32 per share, in the year-earlier period. Its adjusted profit came in at $0.56 per share. Thomson Reuters' revenue gained 6% to $3.45 billion. Its revenue from ongoing businesses surged 8% to $3.26 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.54 per share on revenue of $3.27 billion.
Baker Hughes Inc
BHI reported a rise in its third-quarter earnings. Baker Hughes reported its quarterly profit at $706 million, or $1.61 per share, up from $255 million, or $0.59 per share, in the year-ago period. Excluding a tax benefit, Baker Hughes earned $1.18 per share. Its revenue surged 27% to $5.18 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $1.22 per share on revenue of $5.17 billion.
MetroPCS Communications Inc
PCS reported a 10% drop in its third-quarter earnings. MetroPCS reported its quarterly profit at $69.3 million, or $0.19 per share, versus $77.3 million, or $0.22 per share, in the year-ago period. Its revenue surged 18% to $1.21 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.23 per share on revenue of $1.22 billion.
Westlake Chemical Corp
WLK reported an 8.3% rise in its third-quarter profit. Westlake Chemical's quarterly profit climbed to $67.9 million, or $1.01 per share, from $62.7 million, or $0.95 per share, in the year-ago period. Its revenue surged 24% to $968.4 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.98 per share on revenue of $911 million.
Genesee & Wyoming Inc
GWR reported a 33% surge in its third-quarter earnings. Genesee & Wyoming's quarterly profit surged to $32.9 million, or $0.77 per share, from $24.8 million, or $0.59 per share, in the year-ago period. Its revenue jumped 39% to $217.2 million. Genesee & Wyoming in August projected earnings from continuing operations of $0.75 to $0.80 per share on revenue of $210 million to $215 million.
Nicor Inc
GAS reported a 58% drop in its third-quarter earnings. Nicor reported its quarterly profit at $5.7 million, or $0.12 per share, versus $13.6 million, or $0.30 per share, in the year-ago period. Its operating revenue dropped 1.2% to $348.4 million.
Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Inc
DTG reported a 36% surge in its third-quarter earnings. Dollar Thrifty's quarterly profit rose to $66.6 million, or $2.13 per share, from $49.2 million, or $1.62 per share, in the year-ago period. Excluding certain items, Dollar Thrifty earned $2.14 per share. Its revenue rose 1.8% to $451.7 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $1.92 per share on revenue of $448 million.
Emerson Electric Co
EMR reported a rise in its fiscal fourth-quarter income. Emerson Electric's quarterly profit rose to $761 million, or $1.01 per share, from $749 million, or $0.98 per share, in the year-ago period. The latest quarter earnings included $0.03 per share in discontinued operations. Its revenue gained 12% to $6.55 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.96 per share on revenue of $6.59 billion.
Entergy Corp
ETR reported a 27% rise in its third-quarter profit. Entergy's quarterly profit climbed to $628.1 million, or $3.53 per share, from $492.9 million, or $2.62 per share, in the year-ago period. The company projected earnings of $3.52 per share. Its revenue gained 1.9% to $3.4 billion, versus analysts' estimates of $3.73 billion.
AmerisourceBergen Corp
ABC reported a 4.3% rise in its fiscal fourth-quarter net income. AmerisourceBergen's quarterly profit surged to $147.3 million, or $0.54 per share, from $141.2 million, or $0.50 per share, in the year-ago quarter. Its shares outstanding dropped 4.4% to 271.4 million. AmerisourceBergen's revenue climbed to $20.41 billion from $19.72 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.56 per share on revenue of $20.20 billion.
Public Service Enterprise Group Inc
PEG reported a drop in its third-quarter profit on Tuesday. PSEG's quarterly profit dropped to $294 million, or $0.58 per share, from $567 million, or $1.12 per share, in the year-earlier period. Its adjusted earnings came in at $0.83 per share. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.82 per share.
Imperial Tobacco Group PLC
ITYBY reported an increase in its full-year profit. Imperial Tobacco's net profit for the period climbed to GBP1.8 billion, from GBP1.5 billion, in the year-ago period. Its revenue climbed 3.7% to GBP29.2 billion from GBP28.2 billion. Cigarette volumes dropped to 302.1 billion from 308.7 billion. Imperial Tobacco also proposed a 13% surge in its net dividend to 95.1 pence.
Royal DSM NV
RDSMY reported a strong rise in its third-quarter net income. Royal DSM's quarterly net income surged to 171 million euros ($236.2 million), or €1 per share, from €79 million, or €0.46 per share, in the year-ago quarter. Its profit from continuing operations before special items climbed 38% to €0.94 per share, versus €0.68 per share. Royal DSM's sales gained to €2.32 billion from €2.21 billion.
Nomura Holdings Inc
NMR swung to a loss in the July-September period. Nomura reported a quarterly net loss of Y46.1 billion, versus a net profit of Y17.8 billion, in the April-June quarter. However, analysts were expecting a loss of Y35.60 billion.
Astellas Pharma Inc
ALPMY reported a 17% rise in its net profit for the six months and raised its full-year forecast. Astellas Pharma's net profit for the period rose to Y51.33 billion, from Y43.89 billion, in the year-ago period. Its operating profit climbed 22% to Y83.00 billion from Y67.92 billion. Astellas Pharma's revenue gained to 483.93 billion, from Y461.73 billion.
Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd
FUJHY reported a 27% decline in its net profit in the first half ended September. Fuji Heavy's net profit for the period declined to Y32.75 billion, from Y44.57 billion, in the year-ago period. Its sales dropped 19% to Y655.02 billion, from Y803.99 billion.
Mitsubishi Corp
MSBHY reported an 8.3% drop in its net profit for the six months ended September 30. Mitsubishi Corp's net profit for the period dropped to Y245.69 billion, from Y267.96 billion, in the year-ago period. Its revenue gained 4.5% to Y10.009 trillion from Y9.581 trillion. Mitsubishi Corp's operating profit declined 15% to Y168.61 billion.
Hitachi Ltd
HIT reported a 33% drop in its net profit for the fiscal second quarter. Hitachi's quarterly net profit declined to Y48.0 billion, from Y71.9 billion, in the year-ago period. Its operating profit dropped 9% to Y118.2 billion from Y129.5 billion. Hitachi's revenue gained 3% to Y2.422 trillion from Y2.350 trillion.
Credit Suisse Group
CS reported a 12% rise in its third-quarter net income and announced its plans to make more cost cuts. Credit Suisse's quarterly earnings rose to 683 million Swiss francs ($777.6 million), or 0.53 franc per share, from 609 million francs, or 0.48 franc per share, in the year-ago period. On a core basis, Credit Suisse's pretax profit from continuing operations climbed 38% to 1.04 billion francs. Its revenue gained 8.5% to 6.82 billion francs. Credit Suisse's underlying net income, excluding fair-value gains on the company's debt and other special items, came in at 441 million francs.
Teijin Ltd
TINLY reported a 61% drop in its net profit for the fiscal second quarter. Teijin's quarterly net profit fell to Y2.9 billion, from Y7.5 billion, in the year-ago period. Its sales dropped to Y204.0 billion, from Y207.3 billion. Teijin's operating profit dropped 23% to Y9.6 billion from Y12.4 billion.
Sandvik AB
SDVKY reported a 60% decline in its third-quarter profit. Sandvik's quarterly earnings dropped to 626 million Swedish kronor ($96 million), or 0.53 krona per share, versus 1.58 billion kronor, or 1.33 krona per share, in the year-ago period. Its sales rose to 23.53 billion kronor from 20.24 billion kronor.
