Forbes Names CampusBookRentals.com One of America's 100 Most Promising Companies

OGDEN, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

CampusBookRentals.com today announced it has been named one of America's Most Promising Companies by Forbes, taking the No. 31 spot on the list of 100. CampusBookRentals.com is an online service where college students can rent textbooks for a customizable length of time at a price that is greatly reduced from what is typically found in college bookstores.

Forbes' list of America's Most Promising Companies features 100 privately held up-and-comers with compelling business models, strong management teams, notable customers, strategic partners and precious investment capital.

To sharpen its search, Forbes teamed up with CB Insights, a Manhattan-based data firm that tracks investment in high-growth private companies. With $650,000 in grants from the National Science Foundation, CB has developed complex software called Mosaic that mines myriad online sources (from press releases and social networks to job boards and court filings) to come up with one, algorithmically derived score that measures a private company's health. Forbes married Mosaic's data-crunching with old-fashioned reporting to assemble a list of rising stars with bright growth prospects. To view the complete the list, please visit www.forbes.com/ampc.

“We are thrilled to be included in this prestigious list,” said Alan Martin, CEO of CampusBookRentals.com. “When I think back to the origins of this company, I am blown away with what we have been able to accomplish in a relatively short amount of time. To be recognized by such a renowned and respected publication as Forbes is a very sweet validation for all the hard work we have put into making our business a success, and we will continue to do so with the same enthusiasm and dedication we have had from the very beginning.”

Established in 2007, CampusBookRentals.com started as an entrepreneurial effort wherein Martin and his business partners went into $250,000 in credit card debt to fund operations that began in his basement. Since then, the company has grown into a leader in its industry, growing more than 2,500 percent between 2008 and 2010. With triple-digit growth in 2011, the company expanded into a 57,000 square-foot facility in Ogden, Utah and currently employs more than 120 team members.

“Sizing up younger, privately held companies is hard: Their fortunes can change very quickly and there's a dearth of public data,” says Forbes Executive Editor Brett Nelson. “We took a more comprehensive approach to evaluate their health and potential.”
