Cannabiz Media, a CRM and email marketing software for cannabis and hemp industry players, has announced its fourth annual Point-of-Sale Software in the Cannabis Industry report.
The report highlights key findings for cannabis point-of-sale software systems for 2021. You can download it for free here.
One of the reportedly most significant highlights of the report was the growth of point-of-sale (POS) software companies within the cannabis industry — from 68 to 78 vendors, with 11 new vendors entering the market in 2021.
The report discusses the growing market share for top vendors within the cannabis POS software space. In 2021, the top 5 accounted for 61% of the market, and the top 10 vendors accounted for 79% of the market.
The report dives into detail about which top POS software vendors dominate the market in 2021 and analyzes supporting metrics. It also contains critical information on industry growth trends, especially in relation to acquisitions and consolidations.
For example, the report examines Dutchie’s acquisition of Greenbits and Leaflogix and discusses implications for the broader cannabis POS software market at large as Dutchie consolidates these 2 leading POS software brands — as well as the Akerna Corp. KERN acquisition of Viridian Sciences.
The report discusses the increase in POS cannabis industry vendor switches, which are up from 120 since last year. The report examines which vendors lost customers and which vendors were able to attract a surplus.
Finally, the report shares results from surveyed dispensaries about the customer relationship management (CRM) tools they use. A significant finding is that the most common response to which CRM was used was “none” (64%). The most commonly used POS systems were also identified along with supporting information.
The report was conducted by Cannabiz Media’s researchers who used a convenience sampling method to collect data from 3,132 of the 8,875 active dispensaries, retailers, and delivery license holders across the United States.
The sample is estimated to represent 35% of the total market. Additionally, Cannabiz Media’s research team made a total of 23,000 outbound phone calls during the late spring and summer of 2021 to survey license holders.
