Ice-T, Rapper & Producer, Will Open A Cannabis Dispensary In New Jersey: Why Isn't It Called Ice-THC?

The Jersey City Cannabis Control Board (CCB) approved unanimously (4-0) four adult-use cannabis dispensary applications, including one co-owned by famed rapper, songwriter, actor, and producer, Tracy Lauren Marrow, a.k.a Ice-T, reported headynj.com. The dispensary known as The Medicine Woman, will be located at 660 Tonnelle Ave.

“During the governor’s run for election, myself and my friends, we helped campaign for him. I was born in Newark, NJ, raised in Summit, NJ. So, it’s kinda cool to bring something back to Jersey,” Ice-T said.

“Helping the community is Ice-T: I’m Black, I’m a veteran, my whole career has been about helping people. Nobody starts a business thinking about social impact. But it’s lucrative enough … that you should want to help the community,” he continued.

* Benzinga writer Andrew Ward jokes about the missed opportunity when naming the cannabis dispensary.

“We want everyone to have access to safe cannabis. You are the first application who have said something about the price point. I commend you on that,” CCB member Stacey Flanagan recognized.

The dispensary's co-owner Charis Burrett, said they would bring managers from California to train their staff in Jersey.

Medicine Woman head of operations John Batchelor said they met with Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop and Council President Joyce Watterman in 2020. At the time, Fulop emphasized the importance of partnering with local charities, female and minority owned businesses.

Batchelor noted that The Medicine Woman NJ have partnered with charities like Redemption House, which helps abused women, and plan to help the Jersey City Mural Arts program.
