Joe Biden To Discuss New Taiwan Tensions Over Pelosi Visit And Ukraine War With Xi Jinping Tomorrow

U.S. President Joe Biden will speak to Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday amid new tensions over Taiwan and Russia's invasion of Ukraine, according to Reuters sources.

White House national security spokesperson John Kirby on Tuesday told the media that managing economic competition between the two countries would also be a focus of the call.

"Everything from the tensions over Taiwan to the war in Ukraine, as well as how we better manage competition between our two nations, certainly in the economic sphere," Kirby said of the topics to be discussed.

"This is a call that has been scheduled for a long time, and there's already a pretty robust agenda of things for these two leaders to talk about," he said.

Amid the simmering tensions between the two nations over Nancy Pelosi's planned visit to Taiwan, the call between the leaders would be crucial and the first in four months.

However, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian in a regular briefing on Wednesday in Beijing, said he had no information to offer.
