Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) described what he experienced on Jan.6 when rioters entered the U.S. Capitol.
What Happened: Schumer said that he and Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) were “resolute” about calling in the military and continuing with the electoral vote count.
“Speaker Pelosi and I were resolute that first the military should come in and remove people from the Capitol. The Capitol Police were overwhelmed,” said Schumer, reported CNBC citing NBC News.

Schumer said that he and Pelosi called the secretary of defense and the governors of Virginia and Maryland and urged them to send reinforcements to the Capitol to “make sure that these hooligans were removed,” according to the report.
Schumer reminisced about one good moment of the day when four leaders — two Democrats and two Republicans — got together in the evening and said they would press on with the vote count.
Why It's Important: Schumer’s account came on the heels of the Jan. 6 House select committee’s hearing on Thursday. The hearing showed clips featuring Pelosi and others calling members of the Trump administration to urge them to take action against the rioters, noted CNBC.
In one such clip, captured by Pelosi’s daughter Alexandra Pelosi, the speaker can be heard saying about former President Donald Trump that, “If he comes, I’m gonna punch him out.”
The select House committee voted unanimously to subpoena Trump on Thursday.
