Mark Zuckerberg Aims At Apple's iMessage 'Bubble' As He Talks Up WhatsApp's End-To-End Encryption

Meta Platforms Inc. META CEO Mark Zuckerberg has criticized Apple Inc.'s AAPL iMessage for being less "private and secure" than WhatsApp.

What Happened: On his official Instagram page, Zuckerberg took a shot at Apple's iMessage for being less "private and secure" than WhatsApp.

His post consisted of an image comparing iMessage's Blue and Green bubble approach to WhatsApp's “Private” bubble.

Notably, the Blue text bubbles are always encrypted, while the SMS/MMS messages aren't encrypted and appear in Green text bubbles.

Why It's Important: Meta and Apple have consistently remained in the news for privacy-related issues and changes.

Earlier this month, Telegram founder Pavel Durov said WhatsApp "has now been a surveillance tool for 13 years".

Last year, Hamburg's (Germany) privacy authority head issued a three-month emergency ban against WhatsApp, prohibiting it from collecting the data of users

Similarly, in August last year, privacy whistleblower Edward Snowden criticized Apple for its plan to scan users' iPhones for child sexual abuse material (CSAM), saying that the company has "declared war" on users' privacy
