The U.K. has a new Prime Minister with Rishi Sunak announced as the third person to lead the country in the past two months. Sunak has been a proponent of cryptocurrency and non-fungible tokens, something that was going viral in a post on Monday.
What Happened: During his time as Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sunak pushed the U.K. to further evaluate cryptocurrency and NFT efforts.
Sunak even proposed a Royal Mint NFT collection in April 2022 as part of his efforts.
A clip of Sunak from several months ago showed him making choices in the crypto and NFT spaces and was shared by WatcherGuru. In the post, Sunak is asked to pick between CryptoPunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club. The question involved two of the most valuable and popular collections.
“Bored Apes,” Sunak said without hesitation.
Yuga Labs, which launched Bored Ape Yacht Club, now owns both CryptoPunks and Bored Apes thanks to a deal reached earlier this year.
Sunak was also asked if he preferred Bitcoin BTC/USD or Ethereum ETH/USD.
“I do a basket of cryptocurrency,” Sunak answered to which the interviewer replied that is the safe answer.
Why It’s Important: The fact that the new leader of the U.K. knew what CryptoPunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs were could be a sign of positivity for the NFT markets.
Imagine asking the leaders of major countries to pick a CryptoPunk or Bored Ape. How many would be able to tell you the difference between the two or make a selection?
Price Action: The floor price of CryptoPunks was 65.48 ETH, or $88,050 at the time of writing.
The floor price of Bored Ape Yacht Club was 73.90 ETH, or $99,567 at the time of writing.
