Xi Jinping Willing To Work With Joe Biden To 'Bolster Global Peace And Development'

Chinese President Xi Jinping said his country is willing to work with the U.S. to find ways to get along.

What Happened: Xi, in a letter to the National Committee on US-China Relations’ annual dinner on Wednesday, said better communication between the two nations would bolster global peace and development, reported Bloomberg.

The comments from Xi comes days ahead of the potential meeting with President Joe Biden at a Group of 20 summit next month in Bali.

Xi’s comments struck a conciliatory tone after he promised China would stand its ground in a more hostile world at the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party, during which he also secured an unprecedented third term

Meanwhile, Biden on Wednesday said that China knows that Washington is not seeking any conflict with Beijing but is "looking for competition.”

He added that even as the US maintains its military advantage over China, “We’re making it clear that we don’t seek conflict.”

"There’ll be stiff competition, but there doesn’t need to be conflict. But we are going to compete," Biden said of Xi.

The U.S. National Security Council Spokesman John Kirby, earlier this week, said the U.S. would “keep the lines of communication open, and that includes at the leader level.”
