Home Depot Pennsylvania Location Workers Ditch Union: Report

  • Retail workers at Home Depot Inc's HD Pennsylvania location have voted against unionization.
  • The U.S. National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) said 165 employees voted against joining the independent union Home Depot Workers United. Only 51 employees voted in favor of the union.
  • The call for unions, Reuters reported, gained steam during the pandemic when workplace safety concerns were at the forefront of discussions.
  • Home Depot's independent union filed an unfair labor practices charge against the retailer in mid-October for engaging in unlawful surveillance and interrogating workers.
  • "For a long time Home Depot got to skate by unnoticed and so to now have them under a microscope as well as to have some public accountability on them that's another major victory," the report cited Vincent Quiles, interim president of Home Depot Workers United and a receiving associate at Home Depot.
  • Home Depot has 2,300 stores in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
  • Price Action: HD shares are trading higher by 0.38% at $285.12 in premarket on the last check Monday.
