Samsung Pulls Off An Apple With Back Tap On Phones — But It's Not Exactly Easy To Activate

Samsung's SSNLF Galaxy S and Flip devices will now have Apple Inc.'s AAPL iPhone-style back tap feature.

What Happened: Back tap, an iPhone feature, will now be available on Samsung Galaxy phones. The feature will be provided through a new tool within Samsung's Good Lock system, reported Apple Insider (via Android Police).

The back tap feature facilitates accessibility and enables users to assign different actions to a double or triple tap on the back of the phone, making turning on the torch or launching applications infinitely swift.

Apple iOS also offers a straightforward way to use the back tap feature, as it can be easily found in accessibility settings.

In contrast, Samsung users availing of the same feature will have to go through multiple layers of abstraction.

First, users will have to open Samsung's new Good Lock system. In it, there's a module called RegiStar — currently in beta and available for download from the Galaxy Story or sideloaded.

RegiStar helps users to customize and rearrange the Settings menu and adjust device gestures. Users can then add their distinct back-tap-style motion that will perform actions once double-tapped.

After going through all these steps and adding the changes, users could instantly launch Alphabet Inc.'s GOOG GOOG Google Assistant, open an app, or more via a simple double-tap.
