Trump To Face Another Lawsuit From Rape Accuser Who Says Former President Defamed Her Again

An Elle magazine columnist, who accused Donald Trump of raping her and consequently sued him for defamation, said the former president defamed her again last month.

What Happened: E. Jean Carroll, who accused the former U.S. leader of a rape that took place 27 years ago, made the accusation in a lawsuit she plans to file on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, reported Reuters.

The lawsuit she reportedly plans to file pertains to the battery that allegedly took place at the Bergdorf Goodman department store in Manhattan.

A draft of the lawsuit, seen by Reuters, was part of a filing made by Carroll's lawyer Roberta Kaplan. An earlier defamation lawsuit was filed by the journalist in the same court.

Why It Matters: The latest defamation claim is reportedly based on Trump's Oct. 12 post on Truth Social where he called Carroll's accusations "a Hoax and a lie."

The upcoming lawsuit also includes a civil claim under the Adult Survivors Act, a New York law that will give adult accusers one year beginning Nov. 24 to sue over sexual misconduct even if it took place after statutes of limitations have expired, noted Reuters.

Trump's lawyer Alina Habba said that the recent filing is "completely inappropriate and we will take up this issue with the court." She said it is "typical gamesmanship from Roberta Kaplan."

Trump was questioned under oath at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida in October by lawyers of Carroll in the earlier defamation lawsuit.
