Elon Musk-led Twitter is under the scanner of the Joe Biden administration when it comes to misinformation on the microblogging site.
What Happened: White House Press Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters at a press briefing on Monday that misinformation is something "that we're certainly keeping an eye on."
The spokesperson said that the administration has been "very clear" that it is the responsibility of social media platforms to ensure that when it comes to "hate that we're seeing, that they take action, that they continue to take action."
"We're all keeping a close eye on this. We're all monitoring what's — what's currently occurring. And we see — you know, we see it with our own eyes of what you all are reporting and, just for ourselves, what's happening on Twitter," she said.

Why It Matters: Jean-Pierre said social media companies have a "responsibility to prevent their platforms from being used by any user to incite violence, especially violence directed at individual communities, as we have been seeing."
Musk, who labeled himself a free-speech absolutist, has declared “general amnesty” to suspended Twitter accounts, due to come into effect this week.
The entrepreneur has also reinstated the suspended account of former President Donald Trump calling the ban on the former president a "grave mistake."
Musk's takeover of Twitter has prompted concerns among advertisers about hate speech. Many companies announced the suspension of promotions on the platform. On Monday, Musk said that Apple Inc AAPL was one of many companies that halted or reduced spending on Twitter.
