Former President Donald Trump’s lawyers have reportedly identified at least two documents with classification marks from a storage unit in West Palm Beach, Florida.
What Happened: The lawyers, with the aid of an external team, found the documents which had allegedly made their way to the unit as a part of a 3,000-pound transport of items shipped from Virginia to Florida in September 2021, The Washington Post reported.
The unit was full of “suits and swords and wrestling belts and all sorts of things,” an anonymous source told the Post.
The recovered items were reportedly immediately turned over to the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Why It Matters: Emails released by the General Services Administration indicate that the agency helped rent the storage unit on July 21, 2021, reported the Post.
In addition to the storage unit, the outside team also searched Trump’s golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, and Trump Tower in New York, people familiar with the matter told the Post.
The team reportedly offered the FBI an opportunity to also observe the search, but it was declined.
The FBI raided Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s home in West Palm Beach, in August. The federal agency removed 11 sets of classified documents from the residence at the time.
