After Trump, Giuliani And 3 Others Reportedly Being Considered For Criminal Referrals By Jan. 6 House Panel

Apart from former President Donald Trump, four others are reportedly being considered for criminal referrals by the House Committee probing the Jan.6 insurrection.

What Happened: The panel is considering criminal referrals for former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, lawyer John Eastman, former Justice Department official Jeffrey Clark, and Trump’s ex-lawyer Rudy Giuliani, reported CNN.

The names are still under consideration and more discussion is yet to take place before they are finalized, a person familiar with the matter told CNN.

Panel Chair Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) reportedly said Thursday that the committee members expect to reach a decision on criminal referrals when they meet on Sunday.

Why It Matters: The panel has the aim to release its final report and vote publicly on criminal referrals on Dec. 21, reported CNN.

“There will be some form of public presentation. We haven’t decided exactly what that would be, “ said Thompson, according to the report.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), the head of the subcommittee responsible for presenting recommendations on criminal referrals, said, “The gravest offense in constitutional terms is the attempt to overthrow a presidential election and bypass the constitutional order.”

Trump called for the dissolution of the committee after the Vice Chair of the panel, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo), lost a primary election in August.
