Microsoft Snaps Up This Developer Of High-Speed Cables For Data Transmission

Microsoft Corp MSFT scooped Lumenisity Limited, a leader in next-generation hollow core fiber (HCF) solutions.
The financial terms of the transaction remain undisclosed.
Microsoft can tap Lumenisity’s HCF product for fast, reliable, and secure networking for global, enterprise, and large-scale organizations.

The acquisition will expand Microsoft’s ability to optimize its global cloud infrastructure further and serve Microsoft’s Cloud Platform and Services customers with strict latency and security requirements.
The technology can benefit multiple industries, including healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, retail, and government.
Lumenisity’s next generation of HCF will enable increased overall speed, lower latency, enhanced security and intrusion detection, lower costs, increased bandwidth, and enhanced network quality. It will also aid in the potential for ultra-low signal loss enabling deployment over longer distances without repeaters.
Lumenisity was formed in 2017 as a spinoff from the world-renowned Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) at the University of Southampton to commercialize breakthroughs in developing hollow-core optical fiber.
As part of the Lumenisity acquisition, Microsoft plans to utilize the organization’s technology and the industry-leading expert team to accelerate networking and infrastructure innovations.
Microsoft held $107.3 billion in cash and equivalents as of September 30.
Price Action: MSFT shares traded lower by 0.52% at $246.70 premarket on the last check Monday.
