Riches-To-Rags: Sam Bankman-Fried Reportedly Endures Rat-Infested Bahamas Prison With No Special Treatment

Days after being remanded into custody at a Bahamian prison, FTX FTT/USD founder and former CEO Sam Bankman-Fried “SBF” is reportedly doing well, according to prison officials.

What Happened: Bahamas Acting Commissioner of Corrections Doan Cleare told the Bahamas daily, The Nassau Guardian, on Thursday that “he was in good spirits” at the Fox Hills prison.

Cleare asserted that SBF was receiving the same treatment as all other inmates in the 1,000-person correctional facility. “He isn’t getting any special treatment,” Cleare told Bahamas state television network ZNS.

According to a 2021 report by the U.S. State Department, Fox Hill prison was found to pose "significant human rights issues."

The report uncovered extreme overcrowding, deficient nutrition, and inadequate sanitation.

The majority of the prison's cells measure no more than six feet by ten feet and often house up to six inmates who have to sleep on the ground with no mattresses available and use buckets to dispose of human waste.

The report also documented that cells were infested with rats, maggots, and insects.
