  • A look at current hypothetical betting odds for a potential replacement.

One of the biggest news stories of 2022 was Elon Musk acquiring social media platform Twitter. One of the biggest news stories of 2023 could be who becomes the next Twitter CEO.

Here’s a look at how some betting odds for the position and some hypothetical odds are shaping up.

What Happened: Social media platform Twitter was acquired by Tesla Inc TSLA CEO Elon Musk for $44 billion.

Musk made several changes for Twitter since taking over including job cuts, ramping up monetization efforts and unsuspending and suspending several accounts.

Musk ran a poll asking his followers if he should step down as the CEO of Twitter. The majority (57.5%) of the more than 17.5 million people who voted in the poll said yes, Musk should step down.

“I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job! After that, I will just run the software & servers teams,” Musk tweeted, as Benzinga previously reported.

The race to become CEO of Twitter has seen many candidates mentioned due to their ties to Musk and also has seen some interesting names such as Edward Snowden and Tom from MySpace volunteer for the job title.

Here’s a look at some betting odds for a potential successor to Musk in the role of Twitter CEO.

Betting Odds for Twitter CEO: While no major North American sportsbooks currently offer betting on who the next Twitter CEO will be, several sites are out with odds.

According to Sportsbettingdime, these are the current odds for the next Twitter CEO:
Sriram Krishnan: +170
Jason Calacanis: +250
David Sacks: +250
David Marcus: +1100
Sarah Friar: +1600
Sheryl Sandberg: +1600
Jack Dorsey: +2000
Mike Schroepfer: +3300
Jared Kushner: +3300
Parag Agrawal: +3500
Edward Snowden: +10000

A name that appeared on Benzinga’s candidate list was Krishnan, who is the current betting favorite. Krishnan is an investor, advisor and board member with a specialty in startups. He also has experience previously at Twitter and with large technology companies such as Meta Platforms META-owned Facebook and Snap Inc SNAP, which could bring in social media expertise.

Calacanis and Sacks both are known for the All-In Podcast and have been linked to Musk for years. Calacanis was part of the leaked texts from Musk about the acquisition with him vying for the CEO title. Sacks previously worked with Musk at PayPal Holdings Inc PYPL and also has experience running companies.

Outside of those three candidates, the rest appear to be dark horses with Dorsey, a former Twitter CEO, listed at +2000 and even another former Twitter CEO, Parag Agrawal, listed at +3500.

Bookies.com oddsmaker Adam Thompson created hypothetical odds for the next Twitter CEO, which are below:
Sriram Krishnan: +350
Sarah Friar: +450
Sheryl Sandberg: +500
David Sacks: +650
David Marcus: +900
Jack Dorsey: +1000
Jared Kushner: +1200
The Field (other miscellaneous candidates): +375

The hypothetical odds from Thompson are much different with Sacks listed as the fourth best odds and Calacanis listed as part of “the field.” These odds favor Friar, the current CEO of Nextdoor Holdings Inc KIND, with the second-best odds. Friar has also served on the boards for companies such as Slack, ConsenSys and Walmart Inc WMT.

The odds also improve for Sandberg, who was previously the COO for Meta Platforms.

Another company throwing out hypothetical odds is sports betting company DraftKings Inc DKNG with Johnny Avello giving potential odds to Action Network. The hypothetical odds are:
Sriram Krishnan: +200
Jared Kushner: +300
Jason Calacanis: +600
David Sacks: +700
Sheryl Sandberg: +1000
Mike Schroepfer: +1200
Jared Birchall: +1500
Elon Musk: +2200
Jack Dorsey: +2500
Kevin Systrom: +2800
Peter Thiel: +3000
Aaron Levie: +3500
John Mackey: +4000
Lex Fridman: +5000
Adam Neumann: +6000

Kushner ranking so high in the hypothetical odds played into the viral image of the son-in-law of former President Donald Trump hanging out with Musk at the 2022 World Cup. Electing Kushner as the CEO could divide the platform further politically.

The inclusion of Thiel stands out on this list. Thiel is the co-founder and former CEO of PayPal, co-founder of Palantir Technologies PLTR and has connections to Musk.
