Polish Watchdog Charges T-Mobile For Misleading Advertising

  • Polish regulator UOKiK charged the Polish unit of T-Mobile US, Inc TMUS of misleading advertising relating to a free mobile data offer, potentially facing a fine of 10% of annual revenue.
  • UOKiK said that T-Mobile Polska's slogan "1200 GB free for a year" was misleading as 100 GB Internet packages are granted each month for a maximum of 12 months, as long as the consumer renews the offer periodically at the cost of at least 35 zlotys ($7.99), Reuters reports.

  • "The T-Mobile promotional slogan may suggest receiving a one-time data package of 1200 GB, and not a dozen or so smaller packages, provided that the fee is paid periodically."
  • "Nevertheless, if in the opinion of UOKiK, the communication in the offer was not clear enough, we are ready to improve it to ensure the satisfaction of as many customers as possible," the company told Reuters.
  • T-Mobile US reported a third-quarter FY22 revenue decline of 0.7% year-on-year to $19.48 billion, missing the consensus of $20.02 billion. EPS of $0.40 missed the consensus of $0.68.
  • T-Mobile added 394 thousand postpaid net accounts and 1.6 million postpaid net customer additions, more than AT&T Inc T and Verizon Communications Inc VZ combined and the highest in company history.
  • Price Action: TMUS shares traded lower by 1.54% at $137.81 on the last check Tuesday.
