Edward Snowden seemingly took a potshot at President Joe Biden and his predecessor Donald Trump on their handling of classified documents while in office.
What Happened: Snowden said in a recent tweet, “Worth noting that the President seems to have absconded with more classified documents than many whistleblowers.”
Worth noting that the President seems to have absconded with more classified documents than many whistleblowers. For comparison, Reality Winner was sentenced to 5 YEARS for just one document.

Meanwhile Biden, Trump, Clinton, Petraeus... these guys have dozens, hundreds. No jail.
The former U.S. intelligence contractor pointed to the former U.S. Air Force and NSA translator Reality Winner’s example as a contrast.
“Reality Winner was sentenced to 5 YEARS for just one document,” said Snowden in the tweet.
“Meanwhile Biden, Trump, Clinton, Petraeus... these guys have dozens, hundreds. No jail.”
Tesla and Twitter CEO Elon Musk responded to Snowden. He said, “Most people have no idea that Reality Winner is a real person.”

Why It Matters: Snowden said his own handling of classified documents was more secure since he “kept them encrypted.”

Snowden said in 2021 that he had used Bitcoin BTC/USD to help in the process of leaking classified documents in 2013.
U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland said Thursday that Robert Hur has been appointed as a special counsel to investigate the mishandling of classified documents by Biden.
Garland said documents were found on November 4 in a private office linked to Biden and on December 20 in the garage of Biden’s private residence in Delaware.
