Twitter Hit By Outage On Wednesday Morning — Timeline Not Loading For Many Users

Twitter experienced a major outage on Wednesday, close on the heels of the company’s most recent round of layoffs.

What Happened: Although users were able to access the “Welcome to Twitter!” welcome page, news feeds were not showing up and fresh tweets were not appearing on other users’ timelines.

At the time of writing, there was a spike of reports in the outage tracking website Downdetector.com, starting around 5 AM ET. About 4,500 users just in the U.S. had reported issues with accessing the social media site. Downdetector.com tracks outages by collating status reports from a number of sources including user-submitted errors on its platform.

Individual feeds were still accessible, but there didn't seem to be any new material.

Why It’s Important: This outage comes after issues last month that made it impossible for many users to tweet, read their messages, or follow new accounts. Job layoffs have been a regular feature at Twitter since Elon Musk took over the company in October in a $44-billion acquisition.

Wednesday’s incident occurred just days after Musk laid off over 200 employees.
