If Trump Wins 2024, Who Is VP Favorite? CPAC Voters Choose This Candidate Over DeSantis, Haley

Kari Lake won the Conservative Action Political Conference (CPAC) straw poll for the Republican vice presidential candidate over the weekend.

What Happened: The former Arizona gubernatorial candidate was one among 28 candidates and received 20 percent of the vote leaving behind others such as 2024 presidential candidate Nikki Haley and Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, reported The Hill.

DeSantis reportedly received 14 percent of the vote, while Haley received 10 percent of the votes cast.

Lake challenged her defeat in the Arizona race against Democrat Katie Hobbs. Last month an Arizona appeals court rejected her challenge, reported CBS News.

Lake’s campaign tweeted about her winning the straw poll and said that while they were “flattered” their legal team says “the Constitution won’t allow for her to serve as Governor and VP at the same time.”

Why It Matters: Meanwhile, 62% of the CPAC straw poll respondents want Trump to win the Republican nomination.

DeSantis, who has yet to announce his candidature, received 20% of the votes and came second.

Haley received only 3% of the votes and came behind businessman Perry Johnson, according to a prior report. 

Trump said he wouldn’t even “even think of leaving” after the results came out of the CPAC poll.
