Raise A Glass To Weed-Infused Drinks: Beer Company Chief Lays Out His Vision

After the overwhelming success of last year's 4/20 business event, the Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference is returning to Miami Beach on April 11-12, 2023 where an innovative cannabis expert will discuss the impact of marijuana-infused beverages on the nascent market.

Head Of Cannabis At Canadian Beer Company: Meet Paul Weaver

Weaver, an innovator and product developer with over a decade in the alcohol and cannabis industries, says he believes marijuana is a force for good in the world. For that reason, Weaver has dedicated his career to bringing high-quality products to new consumers in a safe, friendly and consistent manner.

Weaver is the director at The Boston Beer Co. SAM where he leads the Canadian cannabis division. Prior to joining Boston Beer, Weaver was director of innovation at Canopy Growth Corporation CGC and previously served as senior manager of innovation at Molson Coors Beverage Company TAP.

Boston Beer began in 1984 brewing Samuel Adams and the Samuel Adams brand and is recognized as one of the largest and most respected craft beer brands. In 2022, Boston Beer launched TeaPot, a line of THC-infused iced teas that blend specific strains with specific varietals of tea.

As the director of the cannabis beverage company, which is distributed exclusively in Canada, Weaver aspires to penetrate the U.S. market in the near future.

US Cannabis Beverage Regulations, Weaver’s View

It is anticipated that weed will be regulated in a way similar to alcohol, with a three-tier system in place and a clear separation between producers and retailers, according to Beverage Dynamics.

"One of the things I’ve observed about the three-tier system is how different it’s applied state-to-state,” said Weaver. Each state has a distinct path for selling alcohol. However, beverage distributors, including the trucks, warehouses and the equipment used to transport it, are viewed as a reliable system.

It is, therefore, not unreasonable to consider that the system could bring value to the cannabis beverage industry since the infrastructure already exists. While it may not be the same three-tier system or actors, the beverage infrastructure can support the cannabis beverage industry at the state level, Wever said.

Meet Paul Weaver and talk more about this interesting topic at the Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference, April 11-2 and stay with us at Miami Beach’s historic Fontainebleau Hotel.
