Microsoft Co-founder Bill Gates said he gives a “crap” about sanitation and waste management in a recent post on Twitter.
What Happened: The billionaire made his comments on Twitter and shared a YouTube playlist on the subject of sanitation in the context of World Water Day which fell on Wednesday this week.
Gates said, “I give a crap about the way crap gets disposed of. Because there’s no time to waste when it comes to waste management.”

“Improving sanitation vastly enhances the quality of life for people around the world,” said Gates.
Why It Matters: In one of the YouTube videos in the playlist, the year-old Gates talks about toilets and how they are “unaffordable” for the poorest 2.5 billion people in the world.
Gates showcased a typical pit latrine in the video and said such a toilet smelled “terrible.” He said that “unprocessed waste” causes most diarrheal diseases and ultimately leads to malnourished children.
Last year, it was reported that Gates’ philanthropic foundation — The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation — has been collaborating with Samsung Advanced Institute Of Technology since 2019 on a prototype toilet that is safe and designed for household use.
In 2011, the Foundation sponsored the “Reinvent the Toilet Fair” to address wiping out disease from the world.
