YouTube Channel Freakin' Reviews Gives ChatGPT A Whirl — And The Verdict Is Mixed

While OpenAI's chatGPT has been giving users multiple ways to make their lives easier, the technology is now being used to test if it could help YouTubers improve their content.

What Happened: Freakin' Reviews, a popular YouTube channel that features reviews of "As Seen on TV products and gadgets," shared a video titled "ChatGPT Asked Me to Review This!"

In the video, the YouTuber reviewed a "waffle cone maker," which was among the 10 suggestions offered by the AI-powered chatbot.

He picked up a model by Proctor Silex that he bought on Amazon.com Inc. AMZN for $34.

When asked how he came across chatGPT technology, James White, the creator of Freakin' Reviews, told Benzinga, "I had been hearing about ChatGPT on YouTube and the news, and I first tried it in December 2022. I started to wonder how it might help me improve my YouTube channel, so I asked for product review suggestions based on my recent review history."

While in the video, he gave a "shoutout to chatGPT," he told Benzinga that he still prefers viewer suggestions over the AI-powered chatbot. The YouTuber sees it as a "supplemental source of product ideas" rather than a primary one.

White has since tried Alphabet Inc.'s GOOG GOOGL Bard and Microsoft Corporation's MSFT Bing Chat but hasn't received any ideas that were "compelling enough to pursue."

Why It's Important: OpenAI's AI-powered chatbot, chatGPT, has taken the world by storm as it signed up its 100 millionth user in February, reaching the milestone in just 64 days after its Nov. 30 launch.
