PepsiCo Showcases Fleet Of 18 Tesla Semi-Trucks Weeks After Recall: 'Critical For Us'

Food and beverage maker PepsiCo Inc PEP showcased its fleet of 18 Tesla semi-trucks at its Sacramento facility on Tuesday.

What Happened: PepsiCo on Tuesday showcased its fleet of Tesla semi-trucks at Sacramento.

"It's critical for us. We've got some pretty aggressive goals to decarbonize our business," PepsiCo's chief sustainability officer Todd Squarek told KCRA-TV. "By 2040, we aim to have almost 40% of our fleet decarbonized."

Tesla's all-electric heavy-duty semi-truck was first unveiled in 2017. It was pegged for a 2019 launch, but the first deliveries were eventually made to PepsiCo in December last year. PepsiCo received a total of 36 Tesla Semis, deployed in parts in Modesto and Sacramento.

Tesla announced that it aims to build 50,000 units of the semi-truck by 2024 at its earnings call in October. However, late last month Tesla said that it was recalling thirty-five 2023 semi trucks, citing trouble with the parking brake.
