Intel And British Chipmaker Arm Unite To Develop Mobile Chips

  • Intel Corp's INTC Intel Foundry Services (IFS) collaborated with Softbank Group Corp SFTBF SFTBY Arm Ltd to enable chip designers to build low-power compute system-on-chips (SoCs) on the Intel 18A process
  • The collaboration will first focus on mobile SoC designs but allow for potential design expansion into automotive, Internet of Things (IoT), data centers, aerospace, and government applications. 
  • Arm customers designing their next-generation mobile SoCs will benefit from Intel 18A process technology, which delivers breakthrough transistor technologies and IFS's robust manufacturing footprint, including U.S.- and EU-based capacity.

  • Pat Gelsinger, CEO of Intel, said, "Intel's collaboration with Arm will expand the market opportunity for IFS and open up new options and approaches for any fabless company that wants to access best-in-class CPU IP and the power of an open system foundry with leading-edge process technology."
  • Rene Haas, CEO of Arm, said, "Arm's collaboration with Intel enables IFS as a critical foundry partner for our customers as we deliver the next generation of world-changing products built on Arm."
  • This collaboration will enable a more balanced global supply chain for foundry customers working in mobile SoC design on Arm-based CPU cores. 
  • Price Action: INTC shares traded lower by 0.94% at $32.04 on the last check Wednesday.
