Afternoon Market Update (HPQ, MMC, GS)

Hewlett-Packard HPQ has introduced a new line of printers that will allow users to print documents directly from devices such as a smart phone, a netbook or a tablet. These new printers will be available in a price range of $99 to $400. HPQ said, “this would let users transform their printers into publishing platforms from which they can customize print apps and schedule timed delivery of content, such as news from MSNBC.com and Yahoo and creative after-school activities from Disney." A New-York based professional services company, Marsh & McLennan Inc MMC, has sold its Kroll risk-consulting unit to Altegrity Inc for $1.3 billion in cash. The deal is likely to close by late September after it gets regulatory approval. The deal is financed by Goldman Sachs & Co GS along with Apollo Investment Corp. Altegrity Chief Executive Mike Cherkasky said, "Altegrity and Kroll will leverage their combined resources to develop new and innovative solutions for government and commercial clients across a global platform." A subpoena was issued by the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission (FCIC) to Goldman Sachs & Co GS as it failed to comply with the request of the panel for documents and interviews in a timely manner. The FCIC, which is examining the financial crisis of 2008, is scheduled to submit a report, along with recommendations, by the end of the year. Read more from Benzinga's Company news.
