The world’s most iconic cannabis holiday is upon us again - 4/20. For those working in the industry, it feels like a combination of Black Friday and The Super Bowl combined into one day.
But, for cannabis consumers, it’s a special date. And according to this survey by Ayr Wellness and Suzy, 40% of cannabis consumers are taking the day off on 4/20.
To celebrate, Leland Radovanovic and Alice Moon pulled together 12 cannabis products perfect for indulging in this 4/20. Whether you want to try something new or treat yourself to a special gift, this guide contains cannabis products and accessories from around the country to help make your 4/20 one for the books.
Tempo Crackers: Savory and yummy, Tempo Crackers are delicious cheese cracker snacks with a bunch of flavors and THC and CBD combos to match moods. Founded by Robert Holland, the LGBTQ-owned brand is elevating charcuterie boards throughout the Golden State. With the new Buffalo Cheddar, Salt & Vinegar, and Truffle Parmesan cheese crackers, Tempo has eight flavors (including vegan options), perfect for parties with people or yourself. Though we will warn you that much like Cheez-its, you can't put them down - and a box is 100mg of THC. You'll definitely want these for when the munchies come post-high.
Tasteology Chews: Gummies are a childhood comfort food that has followed us into adulthood. Don't judge us; my dentist's snark is enough. Tasteology chews are with real fruit purées by Ponthier, who create dozens of interesting frozen fruit purees that you can purchase up to 20kg - perfect for all you smoothie slurpers. The chews are crafted by Bravo's Top Chef: Just Desserts finalist and Jushi's Director of Manufacturing, Matthew Petersen. We tried the Blueberry Calm, which combines 5mg of THC and a "calming" terpene blend. They taste great, and the terpenes add to the taste and perceived effects. They are currently available in Massachusetts and California.
Stündenglass: We'll be honest. When these first launched, Leland snubbed his nose at them. Probably because he really wanted one, but the price was out of reach for me. He thought, "I can make that with a 2-liter soda bottle and the big plastic container of pretzels from Sam's Club. But then he remembered the taste and smell of tin foil and plastic from overzealous pulls.
This Stündenglass gravity bong is super fun to use. It will get you as stoned or more than homemade pieces because flipping the chamber fills the next, allowing you to take hit after hit. The device can be mounted to the wall or placed on any table as an eye-catching centerpiece.
1988: Fun facts. 1988 was the year before Leland was born, and the average monthly rent in the U.S. was $420.00. Nice.
4Front's 1988 tobacco-free blunts make a strong case for why blunts are not dead, will never be dead, and for those who haven't had them since the days of grape Dutch Masters, they are a blissful reminder of how potent they can be.
The batch of Cookies & Cream tested at around 22% THC. They burned evenly and slowly and lasted me several seshes. The blunts did have a taste, but we expected them to be stronger, so the flavor of the buds - slightly sweet, earthy, and nutty - shone through.
Sunsoil CBD: Sunsoil is a certified organic CBD brand from Vermont focused on increasing access to cannabis through lower prices. They just launched a "green, lean & mean" gummy — made with infused hemp extract, just 2 grams of sugar, 20mg of CBD in each gummy, and are certified organic. Compared to a couple of other well-known CBD brands, the total package does contain more total CBD. They are doing a bogo for a short time to celebrate its launch.
Old Pal Palitos: Old Pal (a TILT Holdings partner brand in the state) is an underrated flower brand in Massachusetts. They have a solid collection of strains, generally have good package/tested dates, and, most importantly, are affordable. To us Old Pal is an everyday smoke. Old Pal Palitos contains ten mini joints filled with 0.35g of whole-flower - no trim or shake. The packaging is plant-based - super plus in our book - and the LA Kush Cake is a late hitter that smells like fake vanilla and tastes like sweet earth.
Smug.overdose: This might be Leland’s favorite thing on this list (even though it's not exactly a product) and has upped his glass game affordably over the last several months. Smug.overdose is an Instagram page that auctions off glass pieces and other handmade pieces for consuming cannabis from smaller following glassmakers across the U.S. Every day, he has a new piece to auction - some have a reserve and "buy now" option like Ebay and others don't. At the end of 24 hours, the highest bid takes the win.
We can attest to the quality of the glass and other fantastic pieces like dab tools that look like mini samurai swords. For each winning bid, you are entered into a monthly contest to get a free mystery box of glass and other items.
The person who runs it is cordial and fair and always gives updates when things ship.
Blazy Susan Tray: The Blazy Susan rolling tray is the perfect marriage of function, fun and beauty. Styled after a traditional lazy susan, this gorgeous pink tray spins on an axis for ease of use in any smoking household or group setting. It features two rolling areas, an incredible spiked de-bowler / ash-tray for easy cleaning of your bong or pipe, and an abundance of holders - banger holders, lighter holders, phone holders, cup holders and a cutout for your grinder. It also comes with a couple silicon inserts to slap onto the surface so your glass pieces don’t slip off mid-spin. The design is almost absurdly thoughtful and to top it off, the pastel pink tray doubles as an iconic statement piece - the best home decor I’ve ever seen. 10 stars! Prices vary, available at www.blazysusan.com
Wandering Bud - Wandering Bud began in 2016 after a failed search for a water pipe that could be beautifully displayed in the home. After designing the smooth-functioning and artfully-designed Billie bubbler in 2019 to cult-like acclaim, founder Riley Brain knew she had something special on our hands. A seamless blend of form and function, Wandering Bud’s handmade ceramic bubbler packs a buttery smooth hit and fits perfectly in the palm of your hand. Between smoke sessions, style Billie on a bookshelf, mantle, or coffee table, and top with a sprig of greenery to disguise this water pipe as a bud vase. Purchase here.
FARMING FIRST - Farming First is a sustainably grown California cannabis brand founded by fifth generation farmers deeply committed to environmental conservation and sustainable growing practices. Their habitat preservation plan includes incorporating setbacks from native waterways to protect water quality, designated areas for preserving and restoring native grasses and plants, and the protection of a rare black walnut tree. Additionally, the use of solar power and upcycled water demonstrate the company's commitment to reducing their environmental impact and promoting conservation. Farming First’s portfolio of brands includes High Fidelity and Venterra Farms, which feature a high quality lineup of whole flower, pre-rolls and vapes. Available at licensed retailers throughout California.
BUDWELL - BUDDY was designed for stylish smokers who are on the move, and tough on their gear. Founder Sara Hussain felt left out by the gorgeous glass and ceramic smoking pieces that felt like a countdown to smash, so she created something sleek, sustainable, and unbreakable. She took it one step further with the 199X Collection - six interchangeable color tips for BUDDY inspired by the music and fashion of the 1990's. They are pretty, but not precious. BUDWELL makes it easy and convenient to switch up your stoner style, without the heartbreak of a smushed joint or broken glass. Prices vary, available at budwell.shop
