EV giant Tesla Inc‘s TSLA Giga Press manufacturer IDRA Group now has a machine to produce electric motor rotors.
What Happened: “Future of die casting is not only Giga Press,” IDRA said in a LinkedIn post with an attached photograph of a machine which will produce electric motor rotors.
A rotor is a moving, cylindrical component of an electric motor or generator.
A picture displays a machine that’s painted red and white, standing as tall as an average person. The machine resembles the Giga Press that was delivered to Tesla. However, the company hasn’t shared more information about the machine or whether it was created for any specific automaker.
Why It Matters: In March, it was reported that Tesla is now awaiting the delivery of a second 9,000-ton Giga Press in Texas for its Cybertruck. The EV maker also employs Giga Presses to manufacture Model Ys and ramp up production.
For 2023, although Tesla issued an underwhelming deliveries guidance of 1.8 million vehicles during its fourth-quarter earnings call in late January, CEO Elon Musk said in April that the company has the potential to deliver in the range of 2 million units.
