Watch: iPhone 'Perfectly Fine' After Plummeting 14K Feet From Skydiver's Pocket

An Apple Inc AAPL iPhone has miraculously survived a 14,000-foot fall from a plane after a skydiver dropped it while filming the jump.

What Happened: A viral TikTok video featuring a skydiver has caught the attention of social media users, in which he accidentally drops his iPhone from a plane during a dive, only to find out later that it somehow survived the 14,000-foot fall.

The video titled “When your phone falls out of your pocket at 14,000 feet” by Hatton Smith was shared on the platform. The video shows the TikToker leaping from a plane and being separated from his device after exiting.

The iPhone is shown partially wedged into the ground, with one person off-camera describing it as “like Excalibur” before it is extracted and determined to be “perfectly fine.”

Although the iPhone model remains unknown, it is possible that the device was able to survive because it was placed in a relatively robust case and fell on a muddy landing ground.

According to the report, while most durable cases are advertised as having the ability to protect smartphones from drops of up to six feet, the height that iPhones can endure is not specified by Apple.

Why It’s Important: Over the years, Apple’s flagship product lineup has faced various challenging scenarios to survive, including surviving at least a 10,000-foot fall and being submerged in lakes for extended periods.

Earlier this year, it was reported that an iPhone 11, which was lost by a student while saving a drowning woman in Brazil, was found one week later and seven meters deep in a lake — still functioning.
