OpenAI's Surprise To ChatGPT Plus Users? Web Browsing, Other Plugins Reportedly Coming Up

OpenAI, backed by Microsoft Corporation MSFT, reportedly plans to introduce a “Beta features” page for ChatGPT Plus users.

What Happened: Popular tech tweeter and security researcher Jane Manchun Wong took to Twitter and shared her recent findings that OpenAI is working on a “Beta features” page for ChatGPT Plus users.

Wong shared a screenshot stating that the company intends to let users try “experimental new features” such as Web browsing, Plugins and Code interpreter.

When a user pointed out that most of the features mentioned are already available in the Alpha version, Wong said that the “Beat features” page aims to provide access to more users instead of the selected few.

At this point, it is unclear when OpenAI plans to release the Beta version. Nevertheless, considering these features have been available in Alpha for some time, the new page may soon become accessible to more users.

Why It’s Important: Since OpenAI launched chatGPT for public testing last year, the generative AI technology in the chatbot has become the talk of the town, which even ignited a battle amongst big tech players.

Considering the massive popularity of chatGPT and the interest it has garnered over the period,  several plugins by the Sam Altman-led company and third-party developers have surfaced.

In March this year, OpenAI launched two plugins: a web browser and a code interpreter.

Earlier this month, Zillow, a popular real estate website in the U.S., introduced a new chatGPT plugin to streamline the house-hunting process for users.
