In an introductory speech ahead of VeeCon 2023, serial entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk, aka Gary Vee, talked about pursuing the things you want to pursue and then figuring out how to build the brand afterward instead of chasing trends.
Co-founder and CEO of RSE Ventures Matt Higgins echoed that sentiment during a panel speech at VeeCon Friday afternoon.
What Happened: Higgins offered a piece of advice from his time on ABC's "Shark Tank" with Mark Cuban.
When Cuban tells a company he doesn't like something about them (e.g. the company name) the entrepreneurs often say "We can change it," but that's the opposite of how they should be responding, he said.
"Don't be a reed in the wind ... just hold your conviction ... those are the people that win long term," Higgins told the packed crowd at VeeCon.
Venture capitalists and what they are looking for in businesses are like chameleons and colors — always changing. Instead of shifting your business to fit the current investing landscape, you should stick to your guns, stand your ground, Higgins said.

The same thing goes for people who are wondering what to do about AI. Is AI going to take my job? Should AI become my job? Should I incorporate AI into my business? Should I make AI my business?
Higgins believes the people who embrace AI and figure out how to apply it to their businesses instead of completely changing their businesses will be the real winners.
If you approach it correctly, AI has the potential to be the great equalizer, Higgins said.
The popular entrepreneur told the crowd that he eventually expects there to be a convergence between blockchain technology and AI. Truth has been cheapened, but people can use blockchain to validate everything,
"I actually think we've reached a tipping point where we can't trust anything, therefore we must prove everything," Higgins said.
