Trump Rape Accuser Jean Carroll Seeking Additional $10M For Comments 'Motivated By Hatred' At CNN Town Hall

E. Jean Carroll is pursuing further compensation from Donald Trump in her ongoing defamation case, citing remarks made by the former president during a CNN town hall meeting shortly after a jury held him accountable for her sexual assault.

What Happened: Carroll is seeking at least $10 million more in a court filing on Monday after Trump "doubled down" on his derogatory remarks about the former Elle magazine columnist during a televised appearance.

"It is hard to imagine defamatory conduct that could possibly be more motivated by hatred, ill will, or spite," Carroll's lawyers wrote of Trump's remarks in the amended lawsuit that was filed in Manhattan, reported Associated Press.

"This conduct supports a very substantial punitive damages award in Carroll's favor both to punish Trump, to deter him from engaging in further defamation, and to deter others from doing the same."

Why It Matters: Earlier this month, a jury determined that Trump had sexually abused Carroll at an upscale department store in Manhattan in 1996. The jury, which awarded Carroll $5 million, also concluded that Trump subsequently made false statements that harmed the victim’s reputation after she publicly disclosed her allegations in a 2019 book.

Despite being convicted in court, the former president declined the verdict and said the case was politically motivated. "I don't know her. I never met her. I had no idea who she is," Trump said about Carroll.

"Trump used a national platform to demean and mock Carroll. He egged on a laughing audience as he made light of his violent sexual assault, called Carroll names, implied that Carroll was asking to be assaulted, and dismissed the jury's verdict vindicating Carroll," the lawsuit against Trump said.
