National Hemp Grow-Off: The Ultimate Test For Cannabis Cultivation Skills

In the kaleidoscopic world of cannabis, a breakthrough event is brewing. Birthed from a simple concept back in 2016, The Grow-Off has distinguished itself as the first and foremost science-based cannabis competition. With its novel approach to weed warfare, the event has turned the leaf on traditional cannabis contests.

The rules of The Grow-Off are revolutionary. All participants begin with identical genetics, starting off on an even playing field. It's not about what you grow but how you grow it. The competition is not about the latest and greatest strain, but rather about the skill and talent of the growers. Lab testing replaces biased judges, with the winners determined by the highest cannabinoid and terpene content. The grand prizes? The illustrious Grow-Off Championship wrestling belt for Total Terpenes and Total Cannabinoids.

This year, the horizons are broadening. Teaming up with Davis Hemp Farms and Orange Photonics, The Grow-Off is set to hold the first-ever National Hemp Grow-Off. Marking a pioneering moment, the competition will span all 50 states, becoming the first occasion the same cultivar is grown and tested across every single climate zone in the country. The conventional Grow-Off rules will stand. The chosen cultivar, specifically bred for its remarkable adaptability, is set to prove its mettle under diverse environmental conditions.

"Every participant will be allowed to grow the plant as they choose, and Orange Photonics will perform standardized testing for participants nationwide," explains Sam Taylor, co-founder of The Grow-Off. "This particular cultivar should perform well in any environment, but we're excited to see what the results show us."

To bolster the academic value of the project, Davis Hemp Farms and The Grow-Off are currently in discussions with several collegiate research programs regarding the potential for a white paper. This could offer invaluable insights into the adaptability and growth patterns of cannabis under diverse climatic conditions.

The competition, expected to draw a capacity crowd of 500 participants, will kick off on May 22nd, when the clones start going out. If all 500 clones are claimed, the Grow-Off promises a tantalizing $5,000 cash prize pool, making the stakes all the more exciting.

For a nominal application fee of just $100, participants will be provided with everything they need for the competition: the competition cut, shipping and handling, and lab testing for judging purposes.

Jeremy Klettke, founder and CEO of Davis Hemp Farms, emphasizes the value of the competition for THC farmers. "This is an extremely terpene-rich and cannabinoid-diverse strain that will be ideal for breeding," he says. He adds, "One of our specialties is working with true American feral varieties, pre-1937 genetics that can express over 40 unique cannabinoids and terpenes."

This year's competition, in particular, promises to be a historic event. The title of the first true National Champion is up for grabs. So as cannabis cultivators across the country flex their green thumbs, the National Hemp Grow-Off stands to become a watershed moment in the annals of cannabis cultivation, forever shifting the paradigm of 'what' you grow to 'how' you grow it.
