Bing vs. Google: Microsoft's Daring Attempt to Outshine Google in the Search Game

  • Microsoft Corp MSFT on Tuesday started making available to users a host of AI upgrades, including ChatGPT, its search engine Bing and to cloud services as it strives to narrow the gap with Alphabet Inc's GOOG GOOGL Google.
  • Among fundamental changes is the rollout of live search results from Bing to ChatGPT, Reuters cites Microsoft at its annual Microsoft Build conference.
  • Microsoft also expanded its plug-ins for Bing, enabling seamless business transactions with consumers in its search engine.
  • Now the tool can help a web surfer looking for dinner ideas with a suggested recipe and ingredients for order from Instacart in a single click, said Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft's consumer chief marketing officer.
  • The updates to Bing are part of Microsoft's effort to capture more of the estimated $286 billion market for search advertising globally.
  • Google has also recently showcased generative AI upgrades for its search engine. Bard, Google's standalone competitor to ChatGPT, is available and already includes answers from Google's search results.
  • Microsoft's new cloud service features allow businesses to build plug-ins connecting to Microsoft 365 Copilot, its enterprise AI assistant.
  • It promised to make an AI assistant, or copilot, available as a preview for some users of its widespread Windows operating system starting in June. Microsoft also announced ways it is helping consumers determine if it's AI-generated an image or video, similar to Google.
  • Price Action: MSFT shares traded lower by 0.03% at $315.15 premarket on the last check Wednesday.
