The travel industry has rebounded strongly since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the American Express Travel: 2022 Global Travel Trends Report, 74% of respondents planned to travel in 2022, up from just 56% in 2021. This surge in demand is being driven by several factors, including pent-up demand from travelers who could not travel during the pandemic and consumers valuing traveling more after COVID. Just last week, Airbnb Inc ABNB shared that it expected fewer bookings and lower average daily rates in the second quarter versus a year earlier, sending shares down 11.5% in after-hours trading.
