Portuguese Authorities Siezed Millions Of Weed Products Over Last Four Years
Numerous cannabis-related inspections have resulted in more than 4.3 million units and nearly 75 liters of confiscated weed products, totaling some €133,898 ($144,425), reported Business of Cannabis.
Ana Oliveira, Portugal's chief food safety inspector, said 31 countervailing proceedings and 18 criminal proceedings have been initiated concerning product seizures.
Cannabis is not officially legal in Portugal though its possession and use are decriminalized, resulting in a hazy situation for all involved. Over 100 stores are selling CBD and other hemp derivatives with less than 0.3% THC.
Thai's New Parliament Sets Sights On Cannabis Control
The Move Forward Party of Thailand seeks to re-classify cannabis as a controlled substance and break monopolies in the liquor industry, based on their success in the May 14th election, reported Nikkei Asia.
Move Forward, which is leading the opposition bloc with Pheu Thai Party, won over 280 seats in the 500-member House of Representatives, rejecting the military-backed parties that have ruled in the country for nearly a decade. The coalition said their 23 agenda items include cannabis regulation and improving competition in the Thai economy.
Churches Object To Athens Medical Cannabis Ordinance
Athenians are urging city leaders to rethink a decision to allow medical cannabis dispensaries to open in Greece's capital, reported WAFF 48 News.
On Monday, several residents gathered at the city council meeting, including church leaders. Council members reported numerous calls and emails from people opposing the establishment of dispensing sites in the vicinity.
Philippine Officers Raid Marijuana Plantations
Philippine law enforcement destroyed P9.4 million ($168,658) worth of marijuana plants in several areas in Benguet over the weekend, reported Philippine Star.
The officers raided marijuana plantations in Badeo and Caliking villages in the towns of Kibungan and Atok on Saturday.
