Florida Man's Bet With Dave Portnoy Leads To $100,000 Job With Full Benefits

  • A Miami sports fan known as "Nicky Smokes" won a bet with Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, securing a $100,000 job.
  • The bet was based on the outcome of a game between the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics.

A Florida man and Miami sports fan, known as “Nicky Smokes” on Twitter, bet Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy that if the Miami Heat defeated the Boston Celtics, he would get a job at Barstool. Conversely, if the Celtics won, Smokes would have had to get a tattoo of a clover titled, “Dave Was Right.”

Well, Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat got it done in game seven and defeated the Boston Celtics, and Portnoy is holding up his end of the deal. Smokes is set to accept a $100,000 salaried job that comes with a one-year contract. Smokes will also get full benefits.

The recent bet was not the first time that Portnoy and Smokes interacted with each other. Last year, after the Miami Dolphins defeated the Buffalo Bills in Miami, Smokes recorded a video of himself yelling at Bills fans. Portnoy responded to the video on Twitter, saying, “This guy sucks.” Smokes also reportedly lent Portnoy a basketball jersey to film a video in.

Smokes, who produces and posts sports content on social media sites like Twitter and YouTube, said that working at Barstool has been a dream of his since he was 18 (Smokes is now 23). Smokes even posted a video of himself crying after realizing he got his dream job. PENN Entertainment Inc PENN is the parent company of Barstool Sports.

In 2023, there are a lot of unconventional ways to get a job, but making a bet with the founder of a company is a first. Either way, congrats to Smokes for his new gig.
