ChatGPT Creator Sam Altman Reunites With Old Friend In India — He's A Tech CEO Too

Sam AltmanOpenAI CEO and the brain behind the popular ChatGPT chatbot bumped into an old friend and former Stanford University dormmate, Rohan Verma on Wednesday, who now serves as the CEO of MapMyIndia.

What Happened? Verma posted a photo with Altman on Twitter, fondly recalling their time together as freshmen at Stanford. Altman studied computer science there for two years before leaving to focus on Loopt, a mobile app enabling users to share their locations with friends.

MapMyIndia is an Indian technology company that specializes in digital mapping, navigation, and location-based services. It offers a range of products and solutions including digital maps, GPS navigation devices, tracking solutions, geospatial analytics, and location-based software development kits, to customers such as AmazonAlexa voiceFlipkart and Uber in India.

Verma expressed his excitement over Altman’s achievements, including his work with OpenAI and the development of the AI chatbot, ChatGPT.

Launched last year, ChatGPT made waves in the tech world for its ability to create essays, poems, and dialogues from minimal prompts. OpenAI’s success drew Microsoft’s MSFT attention, leading to significant financial backing and the integration of OpenAI’s technology into several Microsoft products.

Altman’s visit to India is part of a global tour, and he has plans to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other government officials too during his stay. Altman is also expected to speak at the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Delhi on Thursday.
