A judge in Florida issued an order on Monday barring former President Donald Trump from disclosing evidence to the media or general public in a federal criminal case arising from classified documents.
What Happened: The order from U.S. Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart also put strict conditions on Trump's access to the materials, reports Reuters.
"The Discovery materials, along with any information derived from there, shall not be disclosed to the public or the news media, or disseminated on any news or social media platform, without prior notice to and consent of the U.S. or approval of the Court," the court order said, according to Reuters.
The order said Trump is prohibited from keeping copies of the case materials and may only review them "under the direct supervision" of his defense counsel or a designated member of the counsel's staff.
"The materials also include information pertaining to ongoing investigations, the disclosure of which could compromise those investigations and identify uncharged individuals," the court filing said.
"Trump has a longstanding and perhaps singular history of attacking witnesses, investigators, prosecutors, trial jurors, grand jurors, judges, and others involved in legal proceedings against him, putting those individuals and their families at considerable safety risk," the prosecution argued in a court filing.
Earlier this month, Trump was charged with federal offenses. He is accused of unlawfully retaining classified government documents after he departed from the White House. Additionally, he is accused of conspiring to impede a federal investigation related to this matter.
Trump has maintained his innocence and called the indictment "a disgrace."
Trump also faces additional legal obstacles in New York, where prosecutors indicted him over a purported hush-money payment to a porn star.
