Snapchat's MyAI Chatbot Has 150M Users: It Could Improve Ads, Says Snap CEO

Artificial intelligence (AI) is quickly growing from just being a buzzword to something that's playing a pivotal role in how companies operate. Now, Snap Inc.'s SNAP CEO Evan Spiegel has said that Snapchat's MyAI chatbot has been used so much it could help the company improve its advertisements and, thereby, its top and bottom lines.

What Happened: At an event in Cannes, France, Snap CEO Evan Spiegel said that Snapchat's MyAI chatbot has been used by 150 million users, who have cumulatively sent more than 10 billion messages. This could help improve advertisements on Snapchat, Spiegel told The Wall Street Journal.

Snapchat first rolled out the MyAI chatbot to Snap+ subscribers in February. Powered by ChatGPT, the MyAI chatbot helped Snapchat boost its paying subscriber base by 3 million, reported Time.

Within two months, Snapchat rolled out the chatbot to all of its 750 million subscribers, and the results are staggering. While only a fifth of this user base has chatted up MyAI, they have sent over 10 billion messages cumulatively.

Spiegel also said that one user used the MyAI chatbot to learn how to ask their boss for a raise, managing to eke out an extra $5 per hour in the end.

Why It Is Important: The extensive use of MyAI will help Snapchat improve its machine-learning algorithms, and Spiegel says it will also help the company improve its advertisements.

"When people are communicating with MyAI, we can then use those insights to help improve recommendations across our platform," he told The Wall Street Journal.

This comes at a time when Snap's revenues have tapered – the company reported a decline of $25.39 million in Q1 over the same period last year.
