What Does That Symbol On Your Car Dashboard Mean? Apple iOS 17 Will Help You Out

iOS 17 has introduced a super helpful new feature called “Visual Look Up”, developed by Apple Inc AAPL. This feature analyzes pictures you take and provides more information about the objects within them. The latest iOS update, iOS 17, has expanded this feature to recognize common symbols on your car’s dashboard.

These symbols cover a wide range, from warning lights to those confusing icons for vents, defrosting, and more. With iOS 17, you can receive valuable information about your car’s warning lights and other symbols through Visual Look Up.

Apple’s preview website for iOS 17 highlights some exciting improvements to Visual Look Up this year. For instance, you can find recipes for similar dishes by capturing a photo. Additionally, when you lift a subject from an image, you can access information about it directly from the callout menu.

Furthermore, iOS 17 enables Visual Look Up to work with videos. You can pause any frame and tap the info icon to look up information about the subject in the frame.

One noteworthy enhancement Apple has not explicitly mentioned is the expansion of Visual Look Up to recognize car symbols, made possible by iOS 17. Users on Reddit discovered this change earlier this month, and I had the chance to test it today. Its performance impressed me, even identifying multiple symbols and icons within the same picture. So, if your car’s dashboard lights up like a Christmas tree, Visual Lookup has got you covered.

Once Visual Look Up identifies the symbols in your picture, iOS 17 provides quick links to learn more about each symbol using Safari. When viewing photos, the Photos app displays the icon’s name and briefly describes its meaning.

The auto symbols feature in iOS 17 has a wide range of recognition capabilities, including dashboard warning lights, climate control symbols, headlight options, defrosting symbols, and much more.

How To Access Visual Look Up: Open the Photos app on your iPhone and tap an image. If iOS 17 detects symbols within the picture, you will notice a special icon resembling a steering wheel in the bottom toolbar. Alternatively, you can tap the “i” icon if the steering wheel symbol does not appear automatically.

This addition is handy for iOS 17 users, particularly those driving a BMW. iOS 17 is undergoing developer beta testing, and a public beta is set to follow in July. The official release of iOS 17 is scheduled for September when it will be available to everyone.
