'The Password Game' Is Testing People's Sanity – Even Its Creator Hasn't Been Able To Complete It Yet

No one likes passwords – not even Apple and Google – but they remain a vital part of our modern lives. If you don't already hate passwords, ‘The Password Game' might just push you over the edge.

What Happened: A New York-based coder has released a free browser-based game called ‘The Password Game' that will test your patience and sanity, and as a side-effect, likely improve your knowledge, too.

The game's goal is to create a password that cannot be hacked – in a world where the most common password is "password", strong passwords are necessary.

Starts Simple, But Gets Progressively Worse: ‘The Password Game' starts simple – you must enter a five-character password. But as you fulfill each requirement, a new one pops up. By the time you reach the fifth rule, you need a password that includes digits adding up to "25".

"There are rules in this game that ensure I will never see the pearly gates," said Neal Agarwal, the game's creator.

Then come the weird rules like Roman numerals, the month of the year, the product of Roman numerals, and more.

The rules get increasingly difficult after the tenth – the game asks about things like using the emoji of the current moon phase, identifying the country based on a popular place, and more.

I cleared Rule 15 with 70 characters, but the algebraic chess notation got me checkmated.
